AAG (AIDS Awareness Group, Amritsar) is a registered NGO. Registered under the registrar of firms and societies act XXI of 1860 amended by Punjab, vide no 296 OF 96–97.

Dr. Rakesh takes this opportunity to introduce his colleague and co founder of the group – Dr. Ravi Saini.


Dr. Ravi Saini in his own words
“Me and Dr. Bharti found this group together with one mine journalist friend Mr. Khushwant who unfortunately died few years back in an accident . AAG was found in 1992 and I have read so many papers of AAG in different parts of world.”

Contributions of Ravi can be found on the web in various international conferences. He shares the pride of being leading HIV specialists in the area with me, says Dr. Bharati.

The PLHWA group (again registered) under its umbrella is headed by Surjit Kaur - Vice president, Amarjit Singh and Treasurer Balbir Singh. It has more than 50 members.

AIMS and Objectives
  1. Spread awareness amongst the needy with special reference to:
    • Students in Rural areas
    • Truck drivers
    • Organized sectors like bankers, police force, paramilitary and military personnel, various NGO’s of the city.
    • IVDU’s (Intravenous Drug Users)
    • Women
    • PLHA ( People living with HIV/AIDS )
  2. Provide counseling service to PLHA and their families.
  3. Provide clinical services to PLHA through its clinical wing – Bharti Derma Care and Research center, Amritsar.
  4. Try the rehabilitation of PLHA
  5. Educate the Medical community about various aspects of management of PLHA care.
