The Arkansas Minority Health Commission and Department Of Health say they're waging a war this year -- on HIV and AIDS in the state.

They've organized several free testing events.
10 faith-based institutions are taking on a challenge by the Arkansas Department of Health.

They're helping test people and educate them about the statistical rates of new infections in Arkansas.
Officials say nearly 6,000 people in Arkansas are living with HIV/AIDS..

Half of the victims are African Americans, although they make up only 16 percent of the state's population.
"It's horrific. It's horrific. And the culture enhances that stigma portion of it," said Deidra Levi, executive director of Living Affected Corp.

Sunday commemorated National HIV Testing Day.
