A36–year–old truck driver, suffering from AIDS, was so worried about his two daughter’s fate that he robbed a trader of Rs 4.35 lakh to secure their future. The man, now arrested, had lost his wife to HIV some time ago. On July 13, the truck driver, a Dombivli resident, and his three friends ––Narayan Mangal Karanj, Babu Datta Kamble and Pradeep Budhaji Jadhav –– all with criminal records, robbed a fruit trader in APMC market, Navi Mumbai. The driver too had served time in prison some years ago, and that’s where he had befriended the trio.
The driver was promised a hefty reward for helping the trio. The driver frequented the APMC and was familiar with the area. He and his friends targeted Turbhe trader Mohammad Javed Hussain. As luck would have it, the motorbike on which the three robbers were escaping after the loot skidded and they were nabbed. Soon the driver too was arrested. Assistant Police Inspector Shirish Pawar from APMC police station said, “The accused knew he would die anytime. His sole worry was his two minor daughters.”
