At an tender age of 15 years,Nishit Patel (name changed ), student of class X suffers from Genital Herpes, a sexually transmitted disease (STD). The teenager represents a growing trend among youths contracting STD.
Highlighting the vulnerability of youths,a three–day ‘National Youth Consultation’ was organised by CHETNA, Ahmedabad and Gains and Gaps ICPD+15 in city on Wednesday.
Project resource person, Chetna, Shradha Baetai, said, "The prevalence of STDs have increased among the youths, we have many cases as young as school going kids coming for counselling and medical treatment for STDs. We have children coming in school uniforms for collecting medicines."
"These young children either succumb to peer pressure or get involved in sexual activity out of curiosity which leads to many sexual problems," added Betai.
