The blood bank at Ruby Hall Clinic has become the first in Pune and among the first few in the country to have been accredited by National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) as per its standards for Blood Bank, published in 2007.
Addressing the media on Thursday, blood bank head Snehal Mujumdar said that all the eleven standards set by NABH are very stringent and technical. "They require meticulous attention to patients and donors' safety, confidentiality and implementation of best practices in the field of transfusion medicine."
The blood bank at Ruby Hall is one of the few centres to have Apheresis facility. "We use the latest technology for procedures like blood grouping, cross matching and testing the blood unit for HIV and Hepatitis. The blood bank issues around 21,000 blood units per year," she said.
Ruby Hall Clinic's medical director Dr Sujata Malik mentioned that the blood bank has been given NABH accreditation, within eight months of application. Chief executive officer (CEO) Bomi Bhote, who also was present on the occasion, said, " Ruby Hall Clinic is now the only hospital in Pune with three accreditations, NABH accreditation for the hospital, with the laboratory accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and the Blood Bank also accredited separately by NABH."
