What is the situation of HIV/AIDS globally?
Every 6.5 seconds, another person contracts HIV. A parent, a child, a friend, a colleague. In total, that's 4.85 million people per year.
By the end of 2006, UNAIDS reported that 39.5 million people worldwide are living with HIV. The virus has emerged as the most devastating epidemic in history and AIDS is the leading cause of death for adults aged 15-49.
Already, more than 25 million people around the world have died of AIDS-related diseases (AVERT). In 2006, around 2.9 million men, women and children lost their lives to what is actually a preventable, treatable condition.
Global numbers of people infected with HIV continue to rise, despite the fact that effective prevention strategies already exist.
In the time it has taken you to read this page, another person will have become infected.
Do something about it. Join the fight.
