The man, Arvind Vasudev Gupta, has now lost his job in Saudi Arabia due to the report. On Thursday, MDACS got Gupta tested at K J Somaiya Medical College at Chunabhatti and found he is HIV negative. MDACS has now formed a 3–man panel to probe the incident. Committee head and Additional Project Director of MDACS Dr Harish Pathak confirmed that MDACS project director Dr Shantaram Kudalkar formed a committee. “Gupta lodged a complaint with MDACS. Our test proved he is negative. We will inquire and take suitable action if required,” said Pathak.
On Thursday, Mirror reported Gupta’s plight. On January 12 Gupta tested positive at Jaslok. He then underwent tests at other labs including Bombay Hospital and Thyrocare Path Lab, and tested negative. Nevertheless, a second test at Jaslok still said he is HIV positive. Meanwhile, after the Jaslok report, Gupta lost his job, not to mention 2 kg in weight. He claims he even contemplated suicide a few times.
